about the band
French Cassettes are an indie pop band based in San Francisco consisting of lead singer Scott Huerta, guitarist Mackenzie Bunch, bassist Thomas Bunch, and drummer Rob Mills. Their influences range from Pixies, to Motown, to the Strokes and The Beach Boys.
about the song
"Sunday Soda" is catchy and upbeat and also melancholic. The lyrics start out seemingly cheery ("I float entirely off the ground sometimes, depending on where you're standing") but quickly transition over to a more somber mood. A simplistic and utilitarian two note guitar part serves as the foundation of the groove as Huerta's vocals crisply float over top. Fuzzier tones provide sudden splashes of color along with lush backing vocals. Eventually, the song settles into a lengthy outro section with introspective yet cryptic lyrics repeating over and over: "I dont mind, waiting such a long time. For patience. For three red lines." This part will play over in your mind for the next couple of days. Give it a listen now!
